Sometimes when you can see a child's exceptionality they are placed in a unique position. Either they are treated very well even through the unwelcome looks of sympathy, or they are ignored because people would rather not look. There is a level of fear and misunderstanding that accompanies the stares or the avoidance. It is our job as resource teachers to educate the staff and the students about each child's condition including their strengths and challenges.
