Whole Body Listening
Erica Bohrer's First Grade Blog offers this sample of a Whole Body Listening graphic for your classroom. Warning, this site will link you to "Teachers Pay Teachers" which is a huge pet peeve of mine. How about "Teachers Share With Teachers Because Teaching is Hard Enough Without Spending Your Whole Godamn Paycheck on Supplies" as a new website! Having said that, I do like her blog and I really enjoy this little graphic for helping our littlest kiddos with ADHD learn how to listen. These kiddos have a hard time listening and keeping their bodies still. IT ISN'T PERSONAL. These children are not trying to make your life harder. The self control it would take to sit and listen attentively for more than a minute or two is enourmous depending on their age and their ability to self-regulate. These are NOT bad kids. See SFR for the bad kids. Kidding, there are no bad kids. And these kids SHALL NOT BE REDUCED TO BEHAVIORS. <-----you will hear this a lot from me. These little people deserve better.
