“I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.”
― Oscar Wilde, The Happy Prince and Other Stories
The rare gifted child is something I have yet to truely come across. I have worked with dozens of parents who assure me their child is gifted but I have yet to see the real deal. Clever, smart, advanced are all great adjectives to describe a bright child but this does not mean the child is gifted. Children who are gifted appear to be born with advancements in thinking. Furthermore, these children may even have problem behaviors due to their marginalization by other children. These children are not all teacher pleasers. Their curriculum must be modified and their needs must be met like any other student in the school. Gifted children are considered children with special needs.
